8 Hours of Slovakia Ring, D-25
The final stages of the FIM EWC championship promise to be thrilling. GMT94 Yamaha’s two wins at Le Mans and Oschersleben and Suzuki Endurance Racing Team’s slip-up in Germany have narrowed the gap at the top of the standings. The next two races in Slovakia and Japan will prove decisive.
Only seven points now separate Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, which still tops the FIM EWC 2016-2017 championship standings, from GMT94 Yamaha, which has just notched up two consecutive wins at the 24 Heures Motos and the 8 Hours of Oschersleben. With 30 points up for grabs for the winner of the 8 Hours of Slovakia Ring (24 June) and 45 points awarded to the winner of the Suzuka 8 Hours (30 July), the tail end of the season is wide open, and any scenario is possible. YART Yamaha Official EWC Team, currently 22 points from the front runner, F.C.C. TSR Honda, which is 24 points behind, and Maco Racing Team, at home in Slovakia, with a 33-point gap to close, all have a fighting chance of unseating the championship leader.
The 8 Hours of Slovakia Ring: the Superstock finale
The battle for the FIM EWC Superstock World Cup will be even more highly charged because the Slovakia Ring round is the final race of the season for this category. The gaps between the teams are very narrow in the Superstock class. Moto Ain CRT (Yamaha) has just gone to the top of the standings with a 6-point lead over Tati Team Beaujolais Racing (Kawasaki) and a 12-point lead over Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences. One of these three teams will be the 2016-2017 FIM EWC Superstock World Cup winner. Find out which one at the Slovakia Ring on 24 June.
