Starteam PAM-Racing won the EWC Dunlop Independent Trophy for the first time at the Oschersleben 8 Hours, ahead of Le Mans victor AM Moto Racing Compétition and Tati Team Beaujolais Racing, the trophy winner in Portugal. Starteam PAM-Racing’s win netted them prize money of €10,000.
GMT94 crossed the finish line of an extraordinary race just ahead of Suzuki Endurance Racing Team – who won the FIM EWC 2016 championship by just one point. Penz13.com BMW Motorrad finished third at the Oschersleben 8 Hours.
With the race past the halfway point and at least five pit stops so far, the top Superstock teams have surged into the top 15, with Team 3Art Yam’Avenue leading the way.
The race at Oschersleben got off to a particularly heated and eventful start. Three hours into the race, YART Yamaha Official EWC Team has taken a major lead, a full lap ahead of GMT94 Yamaha and two laps ahead of Suzuki Endurance Racing Team.
The French privateer Team April Moto Motors Events has occupied the top spot in the FIM EWC standings since the second round in Portimão. The team managed by Hervé Moineau will be starting the race at Oschersleben with an 8-point lead over the factory-backed squads, theoretically the strongest contenders for the world title.
While F.C.C. TSR Honda completed the fastest lap of the warm-up at the Oschersleben 8 Hours this morning, the favourites to win refined their strengths in preparation for the grand finale of the FIM EWC championship.
Nearly all the teams in the running for the world title have snapped up prime spots on the starting grid of the Oschersleben 8 Hours, the FIM EWC 2016 final. Two Yamahas – YART Yamaha Official EWC Team and GMT94 Yamaha – are neck and neck, just ahead of 2015 champion Suzuki Endurance Racing Team.
YART Yamaha Official EWC Team dominated free practice at Oschersleben this morning, ahead of Team Rabid Transit and GMT94 Yamaha. Völpker NRT48 Schubert Motors, the current Superstock leader, placed 4th.
Bradley Smith, the Moto GP Monster Yamaha Tech3 team rider who’d come to shore up the YART Yamaha Official EWC Team in its bid for the FIM EWC 2016 title, crashed out during free practice this morning after colliding with another rider.
The Oschersleben 8 Hours will be held in Germany on Saturday 27 August. The race – the final of the FIM EWC championship – will be flagged off at 2pm CEST on the circuit near Magdeburg. Watch it live!
