David Checa has underlined the sense of frustration felt by the ERC Endurance Ducati team following its early exit from the 24H SPA EWC Motos last weekend.
The German squad was in the mix for a top-10 finish when a terminal gearbox failure forced it out after 80 laps.
“Luck was again not on our side and we had to retire just a couple of hours into the race,” Spanish legend Checa explained. “Of course this is endurance and it can always happen, but we wanted more.
“This was always going to be a tough weekend, but we still were aiming to do a solid race and wanted to get some good points for the championship.
“We need to leave that behind us and focus on Bol d’Or now – a race we were fighting for the victory until almost the end last year and we know we can be strong there. Even stronger with all the improvements that have been made to our Ducati Panigale V4R EWC in the meantime.”
Checa was partnered by team returnee Xavi Forés and new recruit for Jesper Pellijeff, a late replacement for Chaz Davies.
