EWC World Cup winner Steinmayr’s busy 2023 takes shape
Philipp Steinmayr is set for another busy season in 2023, adding an Internationale Deutsche Motorradmeisterschaft campaign to the defence of the FIM Endurance World Cup he helped Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers CMS Motostore secure in 2022.
Austrian Steinmayr, 29, has joined the BCC-alpha-Van Zon-BMW team for his fourth season in the IDM but his first with BMW power.
“I don’t have much experience with [the BMW] yet,” Steinmayr said. “But I was out on the race track for three days after Christmas with a 2021 BMW S 1000 RR and I really enjoyed it. Even though the bike was not yet in IDM mode, I already had a very good feeling.”
Steinmayr is one of five riders preparing to contest the 2023 IDM with BCC-alpha-Van Zon-BMW, which he believes will be provide a good opportunity to further progress.
“We can all only learn from each other and it gives the whole team new experience, which they already have plenty of,” he said. “My goal is, of course, to do as well as I can and I think aiming for the top five should be realistic, if not a podium at some point. We’ll see, I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself.”
The 2023 IDM season is due to get underway at the Sachsenring in Germany from 12-14 May, while the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans in France forms the first event of the EWC season from 13-16 April.
