Former EWC champion Mahias completes KM99 attack
KM99 has completed its FIM Endurance World Championship trio with the addition of Lucas Mahias to its Yamaha-powered attack for 2023.
Mahias, the 2016 EWC champion, will link up with Bastien Mackels and Florian Marino at the Belgian outfit, which is owned by Gaëtan Schyns and managed by Mario Kupper.
“The KM99 team is new, but it is certainly not lacking,” said Mahias, 33. “In fact, I’m used to new things and this KM99 adventure comes at the right time. I have already been crowned Endurance World Champion in 2016, and the time has come to return to this discipline. The philosophy is different, of course, because in endurance racing you share the bike, the information, the settings and the emotions, and you are not the centre of attention. But I am confident. I know Florian, we have been indirect rivals for many years, I will get to know Bastien, but from now on, I think I can say that we are in agreement on the objective to be reached.”
As well as success in the EWC, Frenchman Mahias was a big achiever in the FIM Supersport World Championship, claiming the title in 2017 and finishing runner-up in 2018 and 2020.
