Following a hotly disputed start to the race, Honda Endurance Racing have wrested the lead from YART Yamaha and Suzuki Endurance Racing Team.

The first few minutes of the 8 Hours of Slovakia Ring were riveting. After Gregg Black (Suzuki Endurance Racing Team) got the holeshot, Mike Di Meglio (F.C.C. TSR Honda France) moved into the lead. Niccolò Canepa (YART Yamaha) and Randy de Puniet (Honda Endurance Racing) then surged into the fray at the front. Two different trios then began doing battle, with Honda Endurance Racing, YART Yamaha and F.C.C. TSR Honda France grappling for the lead while Team SRC Kawasaki France, Suzuki Endurance Racing Team and Bolliger Team Switzerland fought for 4th place.

Technical issues caused F.C.C. TSR Honda France to fall 3 laps behind, but Honda Endurance Racing and YART Yamaha are still locked in a duel at the front.

As for the second trio, Bolliger Team Switzerland crashed less than one hour into the race, after which an engine problem forced Team SRC Kawasaki France to return to their pit box, thereby offering up 3rd place to Suzuki Endurance Racing Team. Team ERC-BMW Motorrad Endurance also seem dogged by misfortune. They have been back to the pit box several times since the race started.

Two outsiders, VRD Igol Pierret Expériences and Fany Gastro BMW Motorrad by Mercury Racing, have seized their chance to attempt a fourth-place finish.

In Superstock, a heated battle is on involving Junior Team LMS Suzuki, currently in 6th place, and BMRT 3D Maccio Racing, Moto Ain, No Limits Motor Team and Team 33 Coyote Louit Moto.
