Hotly-disputed start at the Slovakia Ring
Suzuki Endurance Racing Team had a brilliant start, but the Yamaha clan – YART Yamaha Official EWC Team and GMT94 Yamaha – wrested back control of the race ahead of F.C.C. TSR Honda.
The first two hours of the race were action-packed. After Vincent Philippe got a magnificent holeshot for Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, Josh Hook of F.C.C. TSR Honda initiated the first duel of the race with Broc Parkes of YART Yamaha Official EWC Team. GMT94 Yamaha had a trickier start, but has since climbed back up and is tailing the machines in the lead.
Osamu Deguchi’s crash on Eva RT Webike Trick Star’s Kawasaki brought the safety cars out for the first time. When the race picked up again, GMT94 Yamaha’s David Checa moved into the lead, taking everyone by surprise. The duel waged by the two Yamahas at the last two rounds of the FIM EWC, at Le Mans and Oschersleben, is now raging afresh on the Slovakia Ring.
Two hours into the race, F.C.C. TSR Honda, Maco Racing and Bolliger Team Switzerland rounded off the top 5.
After being delayed by a crash, then a brief run off track and a puncture, Suzuki Endurance Racing Team was in 6th place at the 2-hour mark, ahead of Team LRP Poland and Honda Endurance Racing.
In the Superstock class, Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences #333 got off to a good start, but Moto Ain CRT took back control and is currently lapping ahead of the #333 and the BMW-mounted team Völpker NRT48 Schubert Motors.
