The challenger teams
Aside from the official teams, many others take part in the FIM EWC. Even if they do not have the same performances or goals, they form an essential part of this championship.
Team April Moto Motors Events
Managed by Hervé Moineau, former Endurance World Champion, riders Gregory Fastré, Victor Casas Moreno and Axel Maurin achieved 27th position in qualifying. Somewhat late in the preparation programme of their Suzuki, they have a great asset in the shape of Axel Maurin, a newcomer to the team who races in the French Superbike championship.
Team Bolliger Switzerland #8
This Swiss team is, together with SERT, one of the oldest in the championship. They know that they are normally unable to beat the top teams but they are regularly well placed thanks to the consistency and reliability of the team and riders Horst Saiger, Roman Stamm and Daniel Sutter – who finished the day in a nice 10th place.
The English team’s three riders are Tourist Trophy stars John McGuinness, Conor Cummins and Dan Stewart. Despite a crash in the second qualifying session, they placed their Honda in 23rd position.
Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences
An unusual team bringing together young people from different social backgrounds united by the goal of endurance racing, they face some issues in fine-tuning their new Yamaha R1, even if they can grasp its potential. Steven Le Coquen, Nelson Major and Adrien Ganfornina are 15th in Superstocks, a place that isn’t an accurate reflection of their standing, as they are usually in the top five of this category.
Having qualified in 13th, this team that was second overall in 2013 can do much better. But a fall during free practice caused damage to its Suzuki. An engine problem during the first practice day also delayed Jimmy Storrar, Vladimir Leonov and Gwen Giabbani.
Scuderia Wants Ducati Luxembourg
This brand new team is a newcomer to the FIM EWC and is discovering its Ducati Panigale, which it received late. Lionel Ancelin, Stéphane Geslin and Philippe Teissier are 53rd after qualifying.
